OBH Annual Hunting

Three Target Tournaments

Each year the Oregon Bow Hunters sponsor three State Championship Tournaments, an Indoor, Field and a 3-D. In addition to the 3 State Tournaments, we offer a Triple Crown Award. This prestigious award goes to the competitor with the highest combined percentage based on a perfect score of each tournament in each class for all three tournaments.

Online pre-registration is available which includes the pre-registration discounted price. Simply register and pay, check in at the registration desk. Don’t forget to ensure your membership is current which is also available online.

Shooting Styles & brief general description:

  • FS = Freestyle (Any type of sight, any release, stabilizer)
  • FSL = Freestyle Limited (Same as FS but only glove, tab or finger release)
  • FSLR = Freestyle Limited Recurve (Same as FSL but must use recurve)
  • BB = Barebow (No sights, No release, one draw check & level, stabilizer)
  • BHFS = Bowhunter Freestyle (Sight with 5 fixed pins or less, release & stabilizer 12” or shorter)
  • MBH = Modern Bowhunter (Sight or scope with no lens, draw check, or clicker are allowed, Release & stabilizer 18” or shorter)
  • TRAD = Traditional (Recurve or longbow, only glove, tab or finger release, no sights)
  • BBR = Longbow or Recurve bow (may use an arrow rest and cushion plunger, no clicker or draw check) unstrung bow must be able to pass through a 12.2 cm inside diameter ring.
  • LB = straight ended bow constructed of wood or laminated wood, only one nocking
    point, one anchor point)(Reference NFAA Article II for more information)

Online Pre-registration: You will receive the pre-registration discounted price if online registration is filled out and paid for prior to the closing of online pre-registration.

Late Registration: Late or regular fee will be assessed for any registrations taken after the online pre-registration is closed (approximately 1 week prior to tournament).

State Indoor

This is the first tournament of the new year. It is a three day shoot (only required to shoot two days) usually held in conjunction with the OBH State Convention on a weekend in February or March. This is a 20 yard (10 yards for cubs) indoor shoot that follows the exact format, tournament rules & classes as prescribed by the NFAA (NFAAUSA.com). You will shoot 5 arrows per end, 12 ends for a total of 60 scoring arrows per day. 5 points per arrow for a maximum score of 300 points. “X” ring is counted for all 5 spot targets. A perfect score is 300 points with 60 X’s.

  • Indoor Tournament rules – Please be familiar with these NFAA rules before the tournament begins.
  • You must be a member of OBH and NFAA to qualify for all awards.
  • Late Registration available at tournament site and closes one hour.
    prior to last shoot time, space permitting.

Indoor Shoot Schedule
You must shoot two days, you may not shoot twice in the same day.

State Outdoor – Field

This is the second tournament, a two day outdoor event, usually held on a weekend in June. Like the Indoor Championships, this is a NFAA sanctioned event that follows tournament rules and classes as prescribed by the NFAA (NFAAUSA.com) Over the course of two days, you will shoot at least 252 scoring arrows. State Outdoor-Field will start at 9:00 am on Saturday and 8:30 am on Sunday with a shot gun start (every starting at once.)

  • NFAA Rules, Divisions & Class’s Apply to the State Outdoor Championships.
  • Must be a member of OBH and NFAA to qualify for all awards.
  • Late Registration available at tournament sites (Friday evening, Saturday & Sunday Morning).
  • Distances will be marked.
  • Tournament will consist of an official NFAA 28 target field round, 28 target hunter round & 28 target animal round.
  • Two rounds shot on Saturday & one round shot on Sunday.
  • Avoid disqualification, please check the rules for your shooting class before the tournament begins.
  • Team competition for Husband & Wife, please see details in the Tournament Rules.

State 3-D

This is the third and last tournament of the year. A two day outdoor event, usually held on a weekend in July. Unlike the Indoor & Outdoor-Field, this tournament does not conform to NFAA rules. The State 3-D tournament follows rules established by the OBH committee and is approved by the board of field governors. You will shoot one-arrow at 40 targets per day.

Rangefinders will be allowed, however, shooting stakes may or may not have the ranges written on them.

State 3-D will start at 9 am on Saturday and 8:30 am on Sunday with a shot gun start
(every starting at once.)

3-D Tournament Rules
NFAA classes will be recognized, however, OBH 3-D rules are different than NFAA rules. Avoid disqualification, please check the rules for your shooting class before the tournament begins.

  • Must be an OBH member to qualify for all awards.
  • Late Registration available at tournament site (Friday evening, Saturday & Sunday Morning)
  • 40 targets shot on Saturday & 40 targets shot on Sunday
  • Scoring will be 12-10-8 or 5 (max possible score 960)
  • On site camping (no hookups) is usually available. Check with the host club for more details.
  • 3-D Tournament Rules are located within the OBH Tournament Rules document
  • Additional awards include: “Highest Overall Score” & “Over 60 years old High Score”

State 3-D Shoot Schedule

State Triple Crown

Any shooter that competes in all three State Tournaments will automatically be eligible for the State Triple Crown awards. No entry necessary. See Tournament Rules document for calculations for Triple Crown Award.
